The biggest freestyle ski and snowboard event of the season
has found a home at Blue Mountain Resort. Sony SnowCrown, presented by Rockstar
Energy Drink, is a week-long competition that celebrates winter action sport
competition, culture and camaraderie.
As Canadian Freestyle Championships, SnowCrown competition
provides juniors, amateurs and pros with an opportunity to meet, greet and
compete with some of the world’s top freestyle athletes in freeski, slopestyle,
halfpipe and big air. To date, thirteen of Canada’s Olympic and National Team
freestyle athletes are registered to compete at SnowCrown including: Brad
Martin, Mercedes Nicoll, Derek Livingston, Katie Tsuyuki, Jenna Blasman, Alex
Duckworth, Tyler Nicholson, Crispin Lipscomb, Calynn Irwin, Breanna Stangeland,
Brooke Voight, Matts Kulisek, Trevor Niblett. Full athlete profiles can be
found at www.canadasnowboard.ca.
With $50,000 in cash and prizing at stake, AFP Gold
Sanctioned Freeskiing and a 4-star TTR rating in Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Big
Air, Sony SnowCrown represents one of Blue Mountain’s biggest on-hill
competitions to date. To aid in their on-hill builds, Blue Mountain recruited
legendary course builder Ryan Neptune. A former US Snowboard Champion, Neptune
leverages his 30 years of ski industry knowledge to develop the facilities that
will lead the way to the future of snow sport.
Sony SnowCrown represents unparalleled first domestic access
to returning Canadian freestyle athletes. “Imagine how huge this is for kids
coming up through the ranks,” said Jesse Fulton of 365 Sports – the organizer
of SnowCrown events. With some spaces still left to fill, Fulton says SnowCrown
is “taking registrations and (expecting) the list of Canadian winter action
sports heroes to continue to grow.”
