Blue Mountain Hosts Special Screening of ‘Superheroes of Stoke’ Ski Film on Friday, January 11, 2013

Proceeds raised go to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital

This year marked the 20^th anniversary of Matchstick Productions’ (MSP) first ski film. In honour of the heroes that have influenced the sport of skiing and its progression throughout the years, Blue Mountain is screening the most anticipated ski film of the year: Superheroes of Stoke. The film showcases footage from all over the globe, captivating viewers through stunning HD shots and an up-close experience that is contagious with energy. With an all-star cast including James Heim and Michelle Parker and exceptional filmmakers, this movie truly pushes the boundaries of action film making.

Join us at Blue Mountain at 7pm on Friday, January 11^th to celebrate 20 years of extraordinary ski films. Tickets are available at Red Devil Sports in the Blue Mountain Village for a minimum $5 donation. All proceeds go to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. Salomon’s Don’t Get Lost Snowshoe Raid is an orienteering event where teams of two will have three hours to navigate to checkpoints on their snowshoes to collect points. Roxy Ride Day

The Roxy Ride Days are an all girls snowboard coaching tour. Aimed at giving girls a chance to progress their freestyle skills weather you are a beginner shredder hitting your first jump or avid all mountain rider with mad skills. It’s a fun, progressive day out on the mountain and in the park with the WSF Roxy coaching team. Your day will be broken up between all mountain and park coaching sessions in the morning and mini jam comps in the afternoon. Coaching sessions are broken up by what you want to learn. Interested in jumps and getting sweet airtime? Join the jump session. Only want to focus on rails and boxes? Join the jib session. Want to try it all? Split your time between both! The day is free for you to maximize your time with what you want to learn! Winter is Back! Blue Mountain Opens On December 12th, 2012

Blue Mountain is set to open for the season tomorrow – Wednesday, December 12, 2012 (weather and conditions permitting). Temperatures have remained consistently cold the last few days, allowing Blue Mountain to ramp up its snowmaking efforts and blast the mountain with snow. Provided the current conditions remain steady, the Resort is on track to open the Silver Bullet and Easy Rider chairs at 9 a.m., with access to two runs, Tranquility and Easy Rider.

To kick-off the season, lift tickets will be sold for $19.00 + HST December 12-14, 2012 with Night Skiing scheduled to start on December 13, 2012. For skiers and snowboarders waiting for snow and colder temperatures to arrive before purchasing a Pass, now is a great time to get the popular 5x7^® Pass at the discounted Anniversary Price of $259+HST – prices increase every Monday at 12 a.m. until January 6, 2013. Double Down Cards are also on sale until December 13, 2012 and are a great holiday gift option.

As Ontario’s only Mountain Village Resort, Blue Mountain has the province’s widest selection of on and off-hill activities including the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster and Plunge! Aquatic Centre. Early Opening on Friday, December 14^th.

The resort will be opening at 7am on December 14^th so let Blue be your all-day babysitter!

New for 2012/13 Winter Season:

·         Snowmaking: Blue Mountain has Canada’s largest and most powerful snowmaking system and new upgrades improve the Resort’s total snowmaking capacity by approximately 10 per cent, and increase its ability to make more snow at warmer temperatures – as high as -2°C.

·         Badlands Terrain Park: New upgrades to the Badlands terrain park feature a new and improved all-snow superpipe. Once built, the superpipe will also be in a new location on the south end of the terrain park (beside the Apple Bowl trail). This change in location creates more space for the creation of new jump and rail lines. With emphasis on progression, a new fleet of rails will be installed, with some old favourites returning, to create a whole new riding experience this season. Snowmaking in the terrain park has also been upgraded.

·         Groomers: Addition of two new state-of-the-art Prinoth Groomers to further establish our fleet as one of Canada’s largest.

·         Events: New this year as part of Pepsi March Break Madness we will be hosting the SNOW Media showcase, a collaboration of photography, film and art from inspiring individuals who embrace the outdoor lifestyle. Check out our full winter events lineup at bluemountain.ca/events

·         Blue Mountain Inn Renovations: The final phase of renovations in the historic Blue Mountain Inn are schedule to be completed by 2013.  The completely remodeled rooms provide a fresh new look and feel, and establish the Inn as one of the area's most comfortable, modern and affordable lodging options.

·         Village Accommodations Refurbishments:  Blue Mountain's luxurious Village accommodations continue to undergo refurbishments to both design and in-room accessories.
